Scytl, the worldwide leader in secure online voting and election modernization, and the Youth of the European People's Party (YEPP) share insight on the future of online voting across Europe, with an 86% of participants supporting the use of online voting as a new voting channel for expatriate and overseas voters in all European member states.

During the YEPP Summer School 2015 held this July in Barcelona, Europe´s next generation of politicians and future influencers were able to participate real-time in an online consultation run with Scytl Online Voting to gauge their level of confidence and views on leveraging secure and verifiable online voting channels across Europe. Key findings resulting from representatives from 30 countries casting their vote and an 86% participation rate included:

  • 86% support the implementation of online voting as a new voting channel for expatriate and overseas voters in all European member states.
  • 46% believe voting online in European Parliament Elections would do the most to strengthen their feeling of participating in the Democratic process in the European Union.
  • 53% support enabling their voices being heard via eDemocracy technology at European Union levels to help their feeling of participation in the Democratic process.
  • If they were to exercise their right to use online voting, 44% would do so for Referendums and 36% would do so for European Elections.

“The dynamic interaction and questions raised during the conference clearly demonstrate the high level of interest and knowledge around secure and verifiable online voting and eDemocracy. This has set the groundwork for ongoing discussions on the future of online voting across all of the European member states,” says Pere Valles.

Founded in 1997, the YEPP brings together 57 center-right youth political organizations from 39 countries across Europe and is the largest political youth organization in Europe. YEPP remains committed to providing the grounds for training, discussions and preparation of the younger generation to lead tomorrow's Europe.
