LOS ANGELES, Oct. 15, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- A new white paper by SecureDrive and SecureUSB provider SECUREDATA explains that many competing encrypted USB flash drives, external hard drives and software-based remote management systems may not be compatible with the newest Macintosh OS (macOS).
The mac OS 10.15 update released earlier this month, does not support older applications that are 32-bit and requires that all applications be 64-bit without exception. There is no "compatibility mode" for these in 10.15 as there was in the two previous macOS releases. Some drives using older legacy encryption chips, software drivers, and applications will be obsolete and simply will not work at all. In some cases, and only for recent devices, users might be able to upgrade the software inside their devices, but the user experience may vary greatly and require steps for backing up the data, upgrading the device, re-formatting the device, and then restoring the data. A similar compatibility challenge exists for any on-premise or host-based RM systems that have not yet been ported over to 64-bit in an all-Mac environment.
To the contrary, SecureData avoids all of these same issues that may arise when operating systems are updated. SecureData's FIPS-validated SecureDrive SSD/HDD drives and SecureUSB flash drives are OS/Host independent, and work across all systems with a USB Port. Additionally, the SecureDrive BT and SecureUSB BT hardware-encrypted storage solutions (RM) system that does not reside on the local network or host OS. Instead, they are remotely managed from the Admin RM Console through a mobile app. This allows for centrally controlled features like remote password reset, remote wipe, and geo- and time-fencing features to restrict drive access to predetermined times and places.
"Our drives' OS independence is the key to compatibility when OS upgrades occur, and our web-based Remote Management software allows an Admin to enforce specific security parameters without having to download anything to their machines. The Admin will be able to access the Remote Management console from any device with Internet access, regardless of their device's specifications and host OS," said Kurt Pietrick, Product Specialist at SECUREDATA.
Many legacy data storage devices that businesses use today may become obsolete with the continued evolution of both Windows and Mac operating systems. Banks, consulting firms, and the medical industry, and others require security solutions that will be immune to the constant OS/Host updates and transitions.
SecureData recommends that if your organization has experienced OS upgrade related issues as described with your current drives and USBs, then please contact Sales (at) SecureData (dot) com to discuss device and remote management options that will work now and avoid these problems in the future.
