SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 28, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Securly, the Silicon Valley-based student safety company, is excited to announce a new, feature for its SecurlyHome mobile app. This feature will send parents push notifications when AI technology detects self-harm, bullying, violence, or grief among their child's online activity on the school network, or on school-issued devices served by Securly.
In 2016, Securly gave parents a view into flagged activity with the Parent Portal web app, designed to engage parents with their child's online activity on their school devices. If a child visited a dangerous site, made a concerning Google search, or posted on social media with content containing self-harm, bullying, or violence, the message was flagged and logged in the Flagged Activity tab on the web app. Parents would then be able to log in and view all of the concerning messages or searches flagged by Securly's AI.
In August 2018, the company released its mobile SecurlyHome app for parents, allowing them to view online activity from their child's school devices from anywhere at any time. As of December 31, 2018, the app boasts over 50,000 parents live on the platform, with over 10,000 weekly active users engaging and interacting with the app.
Now, Securly is rolling out push notifications for online activity flagged by AI for self-harm and violence directly to parents through the SecurlyHome app. This means that parents no longer need to wait to log in the app to see concerning flagged activity, but will be notified when their child searches for something alarming, visits a dangerous site, or posts something concerning on social media. Securly is the only company to give parents immediate visibility when their child is expressing distress online with a real-time push notification for flagged activity.
Says co-founder & CEO, Vinay Mahadik, "This is game-changing for student safety. Web searches and web browsing are a source of truth for what a kid is going through. For the first time ever now, the time between a Google search by a kid looking for ways to end her life, and her parents being informed about it is - zero seconds. Parents don't necessarily wake up every day to see if their kid is suicidal or being bullied, but knowing that Securly will instantly alert them when something is flagged is exactly the peace of mind schools and parents have wanted. We look forward to working closely with our partner schools and parents on continuously improving our AI to be an extra pair of eyes on the safety of our students."
