As the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic closed schools across the nation, education systems have been scrambling to meet the needs of schools, families, and students during these unprecedented times.
Into this new normal comes Hero Elementary, a science-powered superhero series from PBS KIDS.
Hero Elementary, is a new animated series designed to give kids ages 4-7 important tools to help them solve problems by encouraging them to act like scientists, igniting their natural curiosity.
It goes beyond just showing kids how science is present in everyday life, it empowers kids to make a difference in their own backyards and beyond by actively doing science.
Hero Elementary centers around a diverse group of super students, led by their enthusiastic, albeit quirky, teacher, Mr. Sparks. The team works together to help people, solve problems and make the world a better place. They all have powers, like super strength or teleportation, but when those budding talents aren't up to the task, they tap their other powers—the Superpowers of Science—to help them investigate, observe, make predictions and figure out a solution.
All kids love superheroes and summer is usually the time of superhero summer blockbuster movies. Hero Elementary feeds that interest in all things superhero in a kid-friendly way, leveraging the engagement of superheroes to help kids engage with STEM learning and have fun while they are at it!
