Send Me On Vacation Jets Pink on Jet Blue Airlines with Huge Success for Survivors
San Diego, California (PRWEB) October 15, 2014 -- As the group toured across America showing the softer side of Jet Blue, “Jet Pink,” crew members jumped on board the charities bandwagon to earn airline tickets in exchange for volunteerism, a program Jet Blue supports to encourage employees to get involved in their communities and give back.
Marie Wiliams, Narda Middleton and Ashleigh Davis will lead the SMOV Ambassadorship program, encouraging Jet Blue employees to wear the SMOV pin and spread the word that there is an organization that supports the process of emotional healing for women who are surviving breast cancer. These amazing three women were immediately motivated to become a part of reaching out to other women and supporting their fight to regain their lives back.
Marie Williams and Ashleigh Davis went as far as attending the organization’s first NYC event, the night after meeting each other on board the flight. Both women commented that they had been looking for a cause to get involved in that touched their heart and soul, and empowering women was just what they had in mind.
“Jet Blue was amazing in every way,” says Send Me On Vacation’s founder, Cathy Backus. “From checking in, to the exceptional flight crews, to claiming baggage, every employee was so excited to be part of the tour. The group wore t-shirts that said Jet Blue-Jet Pink, catching the interest of both crewmembers and passengers. Over 1.9 million followers were tracking the 8-day journey across America on social media.”
The first event on the week long tour was in partnership with the Napa Valley Wine Train and included sending over 40 women who are surviving breast cancer on-board for the ride of their life on Oct 2. 2014.
Rob Hunter of Hunter III Wines, Alycia Mondavi of Charles Krug Wines, Linda Reisacher of Delectus Winery and Dean Bordigioni of Annadel Winery hosted the evening with winemaker crush dinners to fund both the vacation and staycation programs offered to women from Northern California through Send Me On Vacation. The train left the station with over 250 guests for a three-hour ride. Maria Zapada, a local Napa Valley resident and breast cancer survivor was presented her vacation on board the train and is packing her bags for the sunny shores of Cancun, Mexico.
Dr. Ethan Schram, Medical Oncologist / Hematologist at Saint Helena Hospital, in St. Helena, California attended the event and had this to say:
“When Send Me On Vacation began its affiliation with the hospital, I thought it was such a nice thing to do for women who had just come through the battle with breast cancer,” he said. “But, it wasn’t until one of our own nurses with breast cancer became a recipient of the program that I really realized just how astounding the results of this program were. Nurse Tagnolli came back a new person with the inspiration she could not find at home to re-start her life. The emotional healing process associated with recovery is something that few have addressed.”
“Send Me On Vacation has brilliantly created a program that does just that,” Dr. Schram added. “In addition, upon returning home from vacation, the website offers online care for the body, mind and spirit.”
Colleen Tagnolli went on a TradeWinds Yacht Charter to the Caribbean, which was not only the honeymoon she never had due to her husband’s diagnosis of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma shortly before their wedding, only to be compounded by Colleen’s diagnosis of Breast Cancer a few years later, but it was her dream come true. “Explore, Dream, Discover” is the mantra of TradeWinds Yacht Charters and Colleen was able to live that dream.
The evening ended with a silent travel auction offering exotic vacations donated by SFX Preferred Resorts located in Oakland, California. The Vice President of SFX, Cory Phelps, was on board, showcasing the quality and selection of vacations offered to timeshare owners who are interested in exchanging the timeshare they bought for an extraordinary vacation experience.
“SFX has been a national sponsor of the program for four years,” Mr. Phelps said. “We have had the good fortune of meeting many of the survivors and realized quickly just how vital this program is to the cancer recovery process. We donate all we can both monetarily and our resort inventory.”
“There are no paid employees of SMOV, and every volunteer looks at their contribution as a labor of love,” he added. “Supporting an organization that you know uses 100 percent of the funds donated to send a survivor on vacation is important to us and we encourage others to jump on board.”
Next year, Send Me On Vacation is setting a goal that some may say is “up in the clouds.” Celebrity Chef Angelo Sosa is leading the charge of masterminding the concept of sending 365 women on vacation in 2015 for one fighter a day.
“Let’s take Breast Cancer Awareness to a new level and dedicate ourselves to supporting these women every day, not just during the month of October,” Chef Angelo Sosa said. “We have the dream, we declare our goal and we now we work to deliver it.“
Send me On Vacation plans to make this possible by expanding the tour across the world to reach out to women across the globe.
“With our resources in the timeshare and travel industry raising the funds to make this happen, is not inconceivable,” said President Cathy Bachus. “Send Me On Vacation can make this happen for under $300,000 and is looking for a company to become its global sponsor. If you want to be involved with a dynamic organization that changes lives of women one vacation at a time, please contact Send Me On Vacation at communications(at)sendmeonvacation.org.
