SUMNER, Wash., Oct. 17, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Senior Services of America (SSA) announced today that they have officially broken ground on the much-anticipated Memory Care addition at Memory Haven Sumner on the corner of Parker Road E. and Elm Street E. in Sumner, WA.
Built in 2014, Memory Haven Sumner is currently just over 15,000 square feet and consists of 26 Memory Care beds. Memory Haven Sumner's Executive Director, Mary Jaynes, has been at the community since it opened and states, "This expansion will allow us to better serve the residents of Sumner and surrounding communities. Our current buildings are consistently full and we are not able to care for many seeking dementia or Alzheimer's care. We look forward to the additional rooms." For the past five years since opening, Memory Haven Sumner has received deficiency and citation free surveys from the State as well as consistently achieving "best-in-class" customer service scores.
The new Memory Haven Sumner addition will be located on the campus, adjacent to the current buildings. This new building will offer 12 units and 13 beds, featuring an innovative design to support SSA's philosophy of resident-centered care and individualized programming for residents. The addition will offer a residential atmosphere and thoughtfully designed private and companion suites.
"There is a growing need for Memory Care in our area," adds Elena Roppel, Director of Memory Care at Senior Services of America. "This expansion has been part of the overall vision for years." It is estimated that 5.8 million Americans have Alzheimer's disease, a number that is expected to more than double by 2050. Alzheimer's disease usually first occurs in individuals who are 60 years old and older. By age 85 between 25 and 50 percent of the population will exhibit signs of the disease.
Memory Haven Sumner is managed by SSA. SSA currently owns and operates 14 Communities in 3 states with the corporate office located in Tacoma, WA.
