Right at Home U.K. Recognized by British Franchise Association as Emerging Franchisor of the Year

Ken Deary, a veteran within the franchise industry and previous recipient of BFA’s Franchisee of the Year award, is spearheading Right at Home’s expansion in the U.K.

Introduced as a new category this year, the BFA’s Emerging Franchisor of the Year award recognizes companies that have launched franchising within five years and have seen early success. Judges reviewed three key criteria points across participants: a good infrastructure to support a growing network, solid preparation prior to the launch of the franchise, and demonstrable network growth in terms of franchisees and their revenues.
Due to a dramatic rise in the ageing population and a growing market demand for in-home senior and disabled adult care in the U.K., master franchisee Ken Deary opened the pilot Right at Home U.K. office in January 2010 and has maintained a rapid expansion – the company witnessed system-wide growth of 382 percent in 2013. Based in Lancashire, the master franchise plans to reach £6.5 million in revenue and surpass the 25-unit mark in 2014. Right at Home U.K. is also targeting Northern Ireland and Scotland as major markets for expansion.
Prior to joining Right at Home, Deary launched his career in insurance and qualified as an accountant. In December 1994, he followed the entrepreneurial spirit his father instilled in him and went into franchising with McDonald’s Corporation. Eventually owning and operating four locations, Deary garnered national recognition as BFA’s Franchisee of the Year and went on to receive the McDonald’s Golden Arches Award, an honor bestowed on the top 30 franchisees in the world. From there, he purchased the Albert House Care Home in 2006, a family-run care home that he still runs today.
