“Interestingly, of the top eight factors, all but one were social signals. The amount of back links used came in a very close second. For Google, a high number of back links means a site provides quality information and is popular with online users. As a result, the site should be rewarded with a higher ranking,” Reuter adds.
According to Reuter, of the top four SEO factors (Google+, back links, Facebook Shares, and Facebook Total), all correlated extremely closely to one another, and were just a few points away from the top position as the most important SEO factor on Google. That said, implementing and monitoring a social media marketing campaign can be very time-consuming, he says. Studies show it takes more than 30 hours per month to effectively manage each social media platform. (Ibid.)
