Numero Uno Web Solutions (NumeroUnoWeb.com), a fast-growing global Internet marketing firm that caters to small- and mid-sized business-to-consumer companies, is releasing its expert opinion on why search engine optimization (SEO) is essential for smaller businesses.
“SEO is about optimizing a web site in an effort to help it rank better on search engines like Google, Yahoo!, and Bing,” says Andy Wu, business development manager at Numero Uno Web Solutions. “While some smaller businesses don’t think they need an online presence, it’s important to remember that 86% of Canadians have Internet access from any location, and roughly 40% of Canadians now have mobile Internet access, compared to just five percent in 2001. For smaller businesses, it’s more important than ever to add a successful online marketing campaign to their overall marketing strategies.” (Source: “The Ipsos Canadian inter@ctive Reid Report 2012 Fact Guide,” Ipsos Reid web site, 2012; http://www.ipsos.ca/common/dl/pdf/Ipsos_InteractiveReidReport_FactGuide_2012.pdf)
Every day, Google fields more than one billion queries from people around the globe. An effective SEO strategy can help businesses rank higher on Google, says Wu, getting it seen by more and more users. If a company’s web site isn’t on the first page of Google, the chances of anyone finding it are remote, he notes. According to a recent study, brands that turn up on the first page of a Google search attract more than 90% of all traffic, while only five percent of users look on the second page. “The more information a brand provides users online, the more willing users are to put their trust in it. For example, if a consumer finds little information online about a company, or even poorly written content, they are more apt to be sceptical about the company and its products or services,” Wu adds. “Users that find an informative corporate web site, blog, social media presence, press releases, and positive reviews are far more likely to trust the company and do business with it. All of that is part of SEO.”
According to the experts at Numero Uno Web Solutions, more and more Canadians are using their personal computers, smartphones, and tablets each day to find products and services online. Whether they rely on foot traffic, online sales, or a combination of the two, the best way for a business to increase its target audience is with a tailored SEO campaign, Wu notes.
