Women with PCOS will often be very, very successful
Rockville, MD (PRWEB) September 12, 2016
Shady Grove Fertility, the nation’s largest fertility center, is expanding its resources for patients who are facing polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and reminding women that with proper fertility treatment, a healthy pregnancy is very possible.
Isaac E. Sasson, M.D., Ph.D., a Shady Grove Fertility reproductive endocrinologist, voted a 2014-2015 Top Doc by Main Line Today, took the complex topic of PCOS and presented it in clear, understandable terms in a new video, “Understanding PCOS.” Sasson explains, “There are many reasons why women may have irregular menstrual cycles, and the most common reason is a condition called polycystic ovary syndrome, or PCOS.”
Sasson goes on to explain, “The challenge for women with PCOS is that all of [their] follicles stay small, they never make a big one that can be released. They are stuck at the starting line.”
Sasson further explains how PCOS is diagnosed, as well as its favorable prognosis for women who are trying to conceive using fertility treatment. “Women with PCOS will often be very, very successful,” Sasson reassures.
Also in support of PCOS awareness month—which the Office of Women’s Health, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, estimates affects between 1 in 10 to 1 in 20 women of reproductive age—Shady Grove Fertility has published an eBook designed to inform and empower women, covering such topics as common symptoms, diagnostic testing, and success rates for women with PCOS in fertility treatment. To further inspire, Shady Grove Fertility also shared six patient stories from women who have overcome PCOS and become mothers, offering hope and encouragement for others with the same diagnosis.
As a patient education leader in the fertility community, committed to spreading hope and awareness, Shady Grove Fertility will also host three live events in the month of September: a live ask-the-expert Q&A with PCOS expert Stephanie Beall, M.D., Ph.D., a complimentary patient webinar, Understanding PCOS, led by Andrea Reh, M.D., and a Facebook Live ask-the-expert Q&A event.
During the live Glow ask-the-expert about PCOS on Wednesday, September 24 at 4:00 p.m., SGF’s own reproductive endocrinologist, Stephanie Beall, M.D., Ph.D., will field questions from women diagnosed with PCOS or those who suspect PCOS may be causing their irregular menstrual cycles. Participants will benefit from the opportunity to ask questions of a leading PCOS expert, hear questions asked of other participants, and access a transcript of the live GLOW Q&A following the event.
As part of Shady Grove Fertility’s ongoing community education series—which features dozens of live and virtual events each year to help patients learn, connect, and engage on a myriad of topics—Shady Grove Fertility's own Andrea Reh, M.D. will host an “Understanding PCOS” webinar on September 29 at 12:00 p.m. During the event, guests can ask questions, learn from an expert, stay current on the latest treatments and protocols, and gain access to helpful resources.
Lastly, Shady Grove Fertility will continue its Facebook Live ask-the-expert Q&A series in September, covering the topic of PCOS. Stay tuned to the Shady Grove Fertility Facebook page to learn more.
