Halo BI gives us the ability to view consolidated data quickly after an acquisition which is critical to our overall growth strategy.

Halo Business Intelligence (Halo BI), a global provider of business intelligence software, announced today that Shepard Bros., Inc. – a California based, family-owned supplier of custom specialty chemicals serving a wide variety of industries and markets throughout the United States – has selected Halo BI as its business intelligence solution provider. Shepard Bros., Inc. will use Halo BI’s holistic BI platform initially in the sales department, then will quickly expand to include the finance, manufacturing, purchasing and transportation departments.

According to Jon Wynkoop, Shepard Bros., Inc. CFO, the company had been using custom-developed SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) reports, which gave them only the minimum required information and allowed no data mining opportunities.

“Annual development costs for our SSRS reporting structure were running about $15,000 just to keep it operational and meet minimal service levels,” said Wynkoop. “Because of the static nature of the reports, any information change required programming and was becoming cost-prohibitive. We also needed easy access to data for our remote sales group that would work on any platform.”

Wynkoop added that Halo BI’s mobile capabilities were especially enticing. With more than 35 remote sales employees operating out of locations in California and the Pacific Northwest, the ability to access information from any location on any device was paramount, according to Wynkoop. One platform component, Halo Prism, gives users the ability to drill into data and perform analytics from any device — desktop, tablet or smartphone — with just a web browser.

The ability to aggregate data across multiple data sources was another key requirement Shepard Bros., Inc. focused on when evaluating BI vendors.

“Halo gives us the ability to view consolidated data quickly after an acquisition which is critical to our overall growth strategy,” says Wynkoop. “At the end of the day, Halo BI delivered on all of our key requirements; accessibility, ease-of-use and the ability to pull together multiple data sources — all at a very competitive price point that was within our budget.”
