Sheralyn Rose’s New Memoir Shines Light on Impact of Suicide

Rose discusses her experiences following her husband’s suicide and shares the stories of other suicide victims in her new memoir, “Suicide Tsunami: Living in the Aftermath” (published by Balboa Press AU).
“Overwhelmed by the suicide of my husband, I was driven to seek answers to what appeared to be unanswerable questions,” Rose says. “I began an insatiable search for information about what motivates someone to commit suicide.”
Rose says suicide not only results in the loss of a life, but also a stigma and extreme amounts of grief for the family of the victim. In “Suicide Tsunami,” Rose shares her own story and those from others around the world who have lost someone to suicide. She discusses their feelings immediately after the event, the healing afterward and the challenges they faced from others.
By sharing numerous individuals’ experiences with the fallout from suicide, Rose hopes to bring readers a better understanding of suicide’s lasting effects. She also aims to give hope to those that are reeling from their own experiences with losing someone, as she says acceptance and forgiveness are always possible.

About the Author
Sheralyn Rose has lived a varied and nomadic life. Her parents were both research psychologists and authors. Her mobile lifestyle continued after her marriage to Peter, then in the military, as they moved approximately every two years. They had three children, all born in Papua New Guinea. She later returned to work with a Ph.D. in medical sociology, working in public health. Once retired from the military, Peter bought a business in Sydney. His internal struggles soon wore him down and shortly after, he suicided. Following his death, Sheralyn Rose took over the business for six years before resuming her medical interests.
