First-time author Shinetaha Saincila carves her name in world literature with the publication of a novel that shows a boy whose childhood was violently snatched away from him. “Where Innocence Ends” (published by AuthorHouse) is heavily inspired by the political and economic unrest of the author’s home country, Haiti.
Valmont was once a beautiful Christian island with good and hard working people. But when drug lords rise in the island, conflicts also arose among the government and the people. It has become a chaotic country, where innocent children are being taken away and kidnapped from their homes, sold as slaves and trained to fight like rebels against their own government.
“Where Innocence Ends” follows 12-year-old Kasich Blond, whose childhood was robbed from him when tension and war has became a survival game. Being a slave turned into a life and death situation for him and he must escape with his friend Brandon. In order for him to do that, he must complete a task first - which is to kill his master. Can he do it and free himself completely?
In this gripping yet heartrending tale, readers see how a mismanaged government can raise disillusioned boys and girls and how war and unrest can turn innocent children to broken youths. “Where Innocence Ends” reminds readers, especially the adult population, that it is their responsibility to take care of the younger generation for they are their nation’s future hope after all.
