Shofner Vision Center is One of the First Laser Vision Correction Facilities in the United States to Offer the All Laser “Bladeless” Z-LASIK Vision Correction Procedure
Nashville, TN (PRWEB) January 30, 2014 -- Dr. Stewart Shofner of Shofner Vision Center is one of the first laser vision correction facilities in the United States to offer the all laser "bladeless" Z-LASIK vision correction procedure. “We are now using the new Swiss technology Ziemer laser for blade-free LASIK eye surgery. It is the latest technology for an all laser LASIK procedure”, says Dr. Stewart Shofner.
LASIK, the most popular and most widely used medical procedure for vision correction, has been perfected in millions of successful operations over the past 20 years. “Z-LASIK, the most technologically advanced system all laser LASIK system, is now available at an affordable price at our practice”, says Dr. Shofner.
About Z-LASIK
Manufactured in Switzerland, the Ziemer FEMTO LDV femtosecond laser represents highly advanced technology. It transmits laser pulses at a considerably denser rate than other femtosecond laser devices. For this reason, the energy used to make the flap as well as the spot size are significantly smaller than with other femtosecond-based lasers.
With the combined use of state-of-the art lasers and diagnostic equipment, Z-LASIK provides the best currently available treatment for superior vision correction. The delivery optics are tightly focused for maximum tissue disruption in the focal spot and no thermal or radiation effects to the surrounding tissue. “It’s very exciting to offer this new bladeless Z-LASIK technology as an option for patients, as it enhances our 3D Custom LASIK", says Dr. Kevin Johnson of Shofner Vision Center.
Is Z-LASIK Best?
In determining which procedure is best for the patient, one must consider the eye surgeon’s experience. In the hands of an experienced surgeon like Dr. Stewart Shofner, the use of a microkeratome to create the flap is a safe, affordable way to obtain vision correction with LASIK. Some patients request the Z-LASIK because they do not like the idea of a blade being use to create the flap. An experienced eye surgeon can assist patients in determining which flap method works best.
If patients are fearful of a blade or any procedure in which a flap is made, they may request Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) Vision Correction Surgery. PRK is truly a bladeless option and long established procedure where a flap is not created.
