According to a recent survey, 74% of Canadians plan to do at least some online shopping this holiday season. Of those, more than a quarter (26%) will make half of all their purchases online. Overall, Canadian consumers expect to increase their shopping by between two percent and 3.5% versus less than two percent in 2012. The study also found that the majority (63%) of Canadians would spend more online if retailers offered free shipping, while more than half (56%) said they would spend more if online prices were lower compared to traditional brick-and-mortar prices.

For online retailers to compete, they need to not just meet the needs of their online shoppers, but also exceed them," Smith adds.
