This Aurora program draws people to the shopping district and enhances our culture and aesthetics.

Each year, Shopping in Aurora, Colorado, becomes more beautiful thanks to the annual Art 2C On Havana Street Sculpture & Exhibit Competition, which in 2013 drew international participation and for which a Colorado sculptor took first place. The competition is managed by the Havana Business Improvement District (BID), dba On Havana Street, and the City of Aurora’s Art in Public Places Program (AIPP).

“This Aurora program draws people to the shopping district and enhances our culture and aesthetics,” said Gayle Jetchick, Havana BID Executive Director and member of the Art 2C On Havana Street Selection Committee. “It’s had a positive impact on our local economy. We’re proud but not surprised to see it compared to programs in Los Angeles and other major cities.”

2013 marked the third installment of the competition which, with interest from sculptors in Connecticut, London and Iran, drew national attention and international participation. Eleven sculptures were installed over the first two weeks in October. They will remain on display through September 2014 on Havana Street in Aurora, Colorado, from E. 1st Ave. to just beyond E. Yale Ave.

At the October 18, 2013 Art 2C On Havana Street Awards Gala, Colorado artist Lorri Acott took first and third place for her sculptures "Conversation with Myself" and "Peace," respectively. Aurora, Colorado, artist David Farquharson earned second place for his sculpture, "Illuminate!"
