Holiday Study Reveals that Engagement Increases 66% in Promotions on Facebook During the Month of December
Reno, Nev. (PRWEB) December 04, 2013 -- December is the best month to run a social promotion on Facebook, according to custom app building platform ShortStack. The software company looked at aggregated data from more than 50,000 active Facebook Pages and 300,000 custom Facebook Page apps that serve more than 1.4 billion Facebook fans and discovered that engagement in December increases by as much as 66 percent on custom Facebook Page apps.
"We are starting to hear more and more about the importance of being online during the holidays," said ShortStack CEO, Jim Belosic. "However, we were surprised at the large increase in fan actions that relate directly to custom Facebook apps during the month of December," said Belosic. "They were significantly higher than other months, proving that the Holidays are a crucial time for businesses to be on social networks."
ShortStack’s study revealed the following statistics about custom Facebook Page apps during the month of December:
- 66% increase in contest submissions.
- 57% increase in custom Facebook Page app shares.
- 47% increase in custom Facebook Page app views.
- 33% increase in custom Facebook Page app shares to specific Facebook friends.
- 11% increase in ShortStack user sign-ups.
These numbers show that during the month of December more businesses are running holiday campaigns to highlight gifts and other products. As a result, businesses are seeing a bump in their custom Facebook Page app views and in shares of their apps. Fans who find a gift they like online may share it with their friends (or a specific friend) or family members. Facebook contests are also more common during the holidays so the statistic that shows a 66 percent increase in contest submissions validates that Facebook fans are looking to brands for holiday giveaways and promotions.
Other recent statistics, including information from Invest Blog, support ShortStack’s data. According to Invest Blog, 54 percent of Facebook users are influenced by their Facebook friends and the brands and businesses they follow when it comes to making holiday purchase decisions.
Custom Facebook Page apps are built using a third-party app provider, like ShortStack, and help increase the engagement and Likes for businesses on Facebook. Custom Page apps can be fan-gates, contests, sweepstakes, RSS feeds, Twitter, YouTube and newsletter integrations among many other things. Businesses use custom Facebook Page apps as microsites within their Facebook Pages.
In December of 2012, ShortStack saw an 11 percent increase in user sign-ups which supports their position that businesses are looking for more ways to be present on social media during the holidays and they are looking to third-party Facebook platforms, such as ShortStack, to help them do that.
