SiberName is now opening its Slack team channel to their customers and the general public. The launch date is set for November 14th, 2016, but anyone can join now. The decision to introduce a new "team customer care" service was taken after customer feedback was collected over the summer regarding the quality of current SiberName services. After some research and discussion, the best technical platform to improve customer service as a team was found to be SiberName’s team channel in Slack. (Slack is a team-oriented chatroom and discussion forum application provided by Slack.com). Two discussion channels were created.

The #general channel is open to the general public including customers. It is more focused on discussing anything related to Internet domain names (websites, hosting, email). In this channel members can talk with each other directly, in small groups of 7 or with the whole group (if the topic is of general interest). If any of the smaller "direct discussion groups" become popular and productive then a new channel will be created for them. All individual members, small group members and new channel members will be part of the virtual SiberName team and can communicate with each other directly.

The #sibername channel is for SiberName customers and re-sellers only. The advantage of the #Sibername channel is that it is staffed by several SiberName tech support specialists 24/7 so that customers can experience SiberName’s new "team problem solving” approach. This channel will be the first location where Sibername has ever invited all its customers to communicate with each other directly and openly. This channel also allows for direct messaging between members, small group direct messaging and whole group messaging.

Below are some of the reasons for this choice:

Searchability: Before asking questions, or raising issues, SiberName channel members can search the discussion history for related messages.

Expandability: Small groups can become their own separate channels. This may create a hypernetwork (a “network of networks”). Slack is a provides team-building tool, SiberName provides a starting team.

Omnipresence: The channel is available through most devices (desktops, mobile devices, Apple Watch). An unlimited number of users can join the channel free.
