MAMMOTH LAKES, Calif., May 16, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Summer film festivals are finally upon us, and the 2019 Mammoth Lakes Film Festival, dedicated to discovering and supporting the next generation of filmmakers – and named one of "50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee" by MovieMaker four years in a row – comes to Mammoth Lakes, California, May 22 – 26, 2019. An honored sponsor of the fifth-annual event, the Sierra Nevada Resort & Spa will host the festival's Filmmakers Bash on May 25, in addition to providing the perfect comfortable in-town base with specially priced lodging for film buffs looking to catch all the Hollywood-meets-the-High Sierra action for the popular Memorial Day weekend destination.
The Mammoth Lakes Film Festival (MLFF) recently released its 2019 lineup, boasting two world premieres, one North American premiere, a U.S. premiere and nine West Coast premieres. MLFF is a DBA of the Mammoth Lakes Foundation, the nonprofit founded in 1989 by Mammoth Mountain Ski Area founder Dave McCoy, who turns 104 years old this August and is excited to be a part of the festival's summer-kickoff events.
MLFF will open with "In Fabric" on Wednesday, May 22 – a haunting ghost story with a cast that includes "Game of Thrones" star Gwendoline Christie and that follows the life of a cursed dress as it passes from person to person, with devastating consequences.
The five-day festival brings together world-class cinema, emerging filmmakers, industry veterans, and audiences from around the world to celebrate films with thought-provoking stories. The eclectic mix of films for 2019 represents more than 100 filmmakers and, in addition to the narrative feature categories, presents a short films program that includes over 80 narrative, documentary, animated, experimental and episodic shorts.
This year's MLFF "Spotlight" presentations include "Buddy," with renowned documentary filmmaker Heddy Honigmann exploring the human/animal bond between six service dogs and their people, and "Cold Case Hammarskjöld," where Danish director Mads Brügger raises provocative conspiracy questions in a documentary investigation of the 1961 plane-crash death of the Secretary General of the U.N.
The community-driven resort town of Mammoth Lakes offers a hot travel destination for festival attendees and adventure seekers alike, and there's no better place to stay than the Sierra Nevada Resort & Spa, located in the town epicenter within walking distance of restaurants, shopping, those gorgeous alpine lakes and, most importantly, the film festival. The resort is just a few minutes from MLFF by car or trolley; and lodging is also convenient for a visit to such nearby Eastern Sierra natural wonders as Devils Postpile National Monument, Convict, Crowley and Mono lakes, and Yosemite National Park.
Those looking to take a break from movie-watching can take a refreshing dip in SNR's outdoor pool, soak in the luxurious jacuzzi or relax in their steam room or dry sauna. Guests can also partake in one of the many local summer activities and go for a hike in the nearby Mammoth Lakes Basin, experience mountain biking with more than 80 miles of paths, go rock climbing or try kayaking in the calm waters of Lake Mary where the views are stunning. And film festival attendees can also opt to go skiing at Mammoth Mountain, slated to be open for skiing through the 4th of July.
The festival is affordable at $150/movie pass, which includes up to 10 screenings. Or purchase a VIP ticket that along with the 10 screenings includes four parties and access to the filmmaker lounge at $225/pass. Parties include the Opening Night Gala, Closing Night Awards Party, a Late Night Happy Hour and the Filmmakers Bash on May 25, being held at the stylishly rustic Rafters Restaurant– on-site at Sierra Nevada Resort & Spa – where attendees can celebrate and honor the visiting filmmakers with a night of live music.
Summer rates at Sierra Nevada Resort & Spa start at $99 for lodge rooms midweek, $149 weekends. Deluxe room are from $125 midweek, $179 weekends (based on availability; taxes and fees not included). MLFF ticket holders will be offered discounted rates.
