Rosenfeld Injury Lawyers Announces Scholarship Program for Single Mothers
(PRWEB) June 05, 2014 -- Rosenfeld Injury Lawyers is proud to announce its Single Mother Scholarship Program that is aimed at empowering single mothers by expanding educational opportunities made available to them. Education has the power to break down social barriers and open job opportunities for single mothers. The average annual income for over 50 percent of single mother households is less than $25,000. Education has the power to expand job opportunities for single mothers and increase their earning power. RIL is committed to breaking down barriers by providing two single mothers going back to school with a $1,000 scholarship each.
The two scholarships will be awarded based on the submission of a 500+ word essay and the essay’s rankings on RIL’s social media sites. Single mothers are encouraged to submit a 500+ word essay answering the question, “How do you believe motherhood has helped prepare you for the challenges you will face as a student?”
Single mothers are encouraged to craft a candid essay that explains the strengths they have a developed as a result of motherhood and that will be relevant in pursuing an education. They may wish to expound on relevant skills like time management, ability to prioritize projects, ability to communicate well with others and ability to manage multiple commitments at once. Any student requires these skills in working with others to create presentations, listening to professors and managing time to study for exams or write papers. Essentially, single mothers should try to show how motherhood will serve as an asset as they pursue an education. Other requirements of the scholarship are that a mother be enrolled in a high school, college or university program, maintain a 3.0 GPA and submit an official or unofficial transcript. Applications must be received by December 5, 2014.
After receipt of the entries, Rosenfeld Injury Lawyers will choose 5 finalists. The 5 chosen essays will be posted on social media networks and give viewers the chance to cast a vote. The 2 essays that receive the most social media support will each be awarded a $1,000 scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship may be used to cover the cost of tuition, registration costs, supplies and books.
U.S. statistics concerning the financial circumstances of single mothers are troubling. The average single mother household only receives $300 a month in child support. Only 30 percent of single mother households even receive monthly child support payments. Even when a $300 monthly child support payment is combined with an average annual income of $25,000, this is often barely enough to adequately cover the education costs, groceries and clothing that children require. The most direct way in which single mothers can improve their current situations is through education.
Rosenfeld Injury Lawyers hopes that by expanding educational opportunities for single mothers, they will be able to break the cycle of poverty and provide their children with a better future. Single mothers can receive the degree or certification that they need to pursue new job opportunities with better annual salaries. In turn, a job with a better salary may provide a single mother with the ability to financially support her children and prepare them for the demands of school. Children may have the basic living necessities that they require to succeed in school, such as groceries, shelter, clothes and school supplies. Even a one or two-year certification program may drastically improve the earning potential of a single mother.
The RIL Single Mother Scholarship Program covers the costs of a wide range of educational programs. Scholarship funds may be used for online degree programs, which may be convenient for single mothers who already find themselves over-exerted in meeting schedule demands. An online educational program can give a single mother the opportunity to take classes according to her own schedule.
Interested single mothers should visit the scholarship information page (see: http://www.rosenfeldinjurylawyers.com/articles/single-mother-scholarship/) for additional eligibility information about the scholarship program. By writing a single 500+ word essay, a single mother may be on her way to covering a significant portion of her educational costs for the semester or year.
