ZCorum to Provide Bandwidth Usage Management for Sjoberg’s Cable
Alpharetta, Georgia (PRWEB) August 20, 2014 -- ZCorum, a leading provider of managed broadband services and diagnostics, announced that it will be providing its bandwidth management tool, Bandwidth Commander, to Sjoberg’s Cable. Located in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, Sjoberg’s already receives a number of other managed broadband services from ZCorum, and has signed on for the bandwidth management solution to help handle increasing bandwidth use.
Sjoberg’s Cable, like other broadband providers, has been experiencing a steady increase in bandwidth use during peak hours. If not addressed, this can have a negative impact on service for all subscribers. According to Nate Stroh, Network Administrator at Sjoberg's Cable, it has been a challenge keeping up with the rising demand for bandwidth. “It seems like we're constantly adding more equipment and bandwidth, and as soon as the additional capacity is in place it fills up again. It will be great having a tool to manage that capacity more efficiently, rather than having to continually build out our network to handle a few peak hours a day by a relatively small percentage of users.”
Bandwidth Commander uses IPDR to collect usage data directly from the CMTS and then applies net-neutral bandwidth policies based on the time of day or a monthly quota. ZCorum provides the software as a hosted solution, so Sjoberg’s did not need to purchase any equipment, and it is automatically scaled as their network grows. Arthur Skinner, ZCorum’s Vice President of Worldwide Sales, stated, “With Bandwidth Commander, Sjoberg’s will be able to create usage policies that can help even out traffic during peak times, which will benefit everyone.” Skinner added that one of the services his company offers to providers who purchase Bandwidth Commander is an in-depth look at current usage, along with recommendations for bandwidth policies that will have a positive impact for the majority of subscribers.
In order to prepare their customers for the impending policy change, Sjoberg’s has been sending letters to their highest users to inform them of the coming usage limits. Also, as bandwidth policies are enforced for specific users, those customers will receive an email notification. “Our ultimate goal is to provide our subscribers with the best experience possible at a reasonable price,” said Stroh. “With a tool like Bandwidth Commander we don’t need to keep throwing more capacity at the problem. We can intelligently manage bandwidth use and provide a better overall experience for our customers.”
