Bringing the power of Slim.AI to Docker Desktop furthers our mission to help developers reduce friction when selecting, troubleshooting, optimizing and securing container images by offering them easy visibility into the composition and construction of their images.

Slim.AI, the Boston-based startup focused on optimizing and securing cloud-native applications, announced today that it is the newest member of the Docker Extension Program. Docker Extensions demonstrates Docker’s commitment to improving the developer experience by bringing the tools developers use most to an environment where they can more easily focus on innovation and less time on everything else.

“For Slim.AI, joining the Docker Extension program is a bit of a homecoming,” said John Amaral, co-founder and CEO at Slim.AI. “Our core product is based on DockerSlim, which was born from the early Docker community and created by our co-founder Kyle Quest. Bringing the power of Slim.AI to Docker Desktop furthers our mission to help developers reduce friction when selecting, troubleshooting, optimizing and securing container images by offering them easy visibility into the composition and construction of their images. Now, they can reduce software supply chain risk directly from their local environment within the Docker Desktop.”

Images often lack important documentation, which is a big challenge for developers when they are trying to determine if an image is usable, well constructed and secure. Slim.AI helps developers know what’s in their containers when they are attempting to work with, optimize and secure container images that are lacking in even basic details.

The free version of the Slim.AI Docker Extension offers developers the following capabilities without authentication to the Slim.AI Platform:

  • Easy to access deep analyses of local container images by tag
  • Security insights
  • Optimization opportunities
  • Fully searchable File Explorer
  • The ability to compare any two local images or image tags
  • Reverse engineered Dockerfiles for each image when the originals are not available

With API Token Authentication to the Slim.AI Platform, developers can:

  • Search across multiple public and authenticated registries for quality images
  • View deep analysis, insights, and File Explorer for images across available registries prior to pulling them down to a local machine

“Docker is obsessed with developer ergonomics and is committed to filling and improving the developer experience gap,” said Jake Levirne, head of product at Docker. “We welcome Slim.AI to the Docker Extension marketplace, expanding the applications and capabilities available for millions of registered Docker developers.”

Docker Extensions allow developers to easily discover and integrate new functionality and additional developer tools into Docker Desktop. With Docker Extensions, they can add debugging, testing, networking, security, and other tools to their Docker Desktop installation to support development workflow and improve productivity. Docker Extensions offer a breadth of familiar experiences that integrate with Docker Desktop so they can speed up innovation without having to learn new patterns. Docker Extensions are built with the developer experience in mind and include official tools built by Docker and the company’s trusted ecosystem partners, giving developers the convenience and flexibility to create workflows that meet their individual development needs.
