Sloan Consortium Unveils ‘Advanced Online Teaching Certificate’ Program, Grounded by Sloan-C’s 5 Pillars of Quality
Newburyport, MA (PRWEB) February 04, 2014 -- The Sloan Consortium (Sloan-C) today introduced the Sloan-C Advanced Online Teaching Certificate program, designed to help educators fine-tune existing distance learning courses and/or degree programs using the Sloan-C 5 Pillars of Quality framework—learning effectiveness, scale, access, faculty satisfaction and student satisfaction.
The program is offered during three cohorts throughout the year (April, July and October), each of which kicks off with a pre-conference workshop, held at each of Sloan-C’s 2014 conferences. The first of these workshops takes place in conjunction with Sloan-C’s 7th Annual International Symposium on Emerging Technologies for Online Learning, April 9-11, in Dallas, Texas.
“Quality is essential to any successful online or distance learning program,” said Sandra Coswatte, director, Sloan-C Institute. “Keeping pace with student expectations and rapidly changing technology challenges even the most advanced higher education institutions and professionals. Our new certificate program is intended to help higher ed professionals determine a path to success by applying the established Sloan-C quality framework to their online offerings.”
The program consists of a three-week asynchronous foundational course where participants complete a course evaluation, develop a course revision plan and connect with peers for ongoing support.
In three follow-up synchronous sessions, participants learn more about active learning activities and strategies, enhance their existing course with the use of multimedia or social media components grounded by common accessibility standards, and develop specific assessment tools for measuring course learning outcomes with consideration for accreditation expectations.
The program concludes with participants delivering a final presentation of a revised course or program for peer review.
Registration is now open for the April cohort, which runs from April 2-July 18. More information about the program, including prerequisites, technical requirements, pricing and online registration is available at http://sloanconsortium.org/institute/advanced-certificate-program.
