Siborg Systems Inc. Releases Smart Tweezers ST-5S and LCR-Reader to the Public
Toronto, Ontario (PRWEB) May 29, 2014 -- After a decade of availability, the Smart Tweezers family has expanded again with the newest models the ST-5S and LCR-Reader. Smart Tweezers design of a digital LCR-meter and an integrated set of tweezers makes testing and troubleshooting Surface Mount Technology simple, and is currently being used by many major high-tech companies worldwide. The new devices have already been shipped to VanDevice (Japan), KaiserTech (UK), Sanata Ltd. (Russia) and AdvanceTech (India).
The design of Smart Tweezers and LCR-Reader incorporates a set of tweezers with precise stainless-steel gold-plated tweezer tips, and a small but powerful LCR-meter in a one-handed-use tool. Smart Tweezers makes testing and evaluating components simple; when a component is being held with the tweezers, Smart Tweezers automatically determines the type of component and best test range and frequency for the L, C or R measurement as well as secondary impedances such as the ESR or Z values. Because Smart Tweezers have fully automatic evaluations, and one-handed-use design, users can be more time-efficient by eliminating the need for setting-up between components and have one hand free for taking notes or other tasks. Some components may or may not have wire leads or other distinguishing characteristics to set them apart from one another, Smart Tweezers saves time by just holding the component between the tips.
The newest ST-5S model is replacing the popular ST-5 model, but still offers all the same features and functions found on the ST-5, including:
- Automatic L, C, R and ESR measurements
- Basic accuracy of 0.2%
- Adjustable test signals of 0.5 and 1.0 Vrms
- Component sorting with 1%, 5%, 10% and 20% tolerance
- Continuity and diode testing
- Active and reactive impedance components displayed
- Parasitic offset subtraction feature
- Li-Ion battery with micro-USB charger
The main difference between the ST-5S and ST-5 is the design; the ST-5S has been updated to look more like the LCR-Reader, with a smaller body and lighter weight of 1 oz. compared to the 2 oz. weight of the older model as well as a bright OLED display. A new navigational button allows users to easily switch the test mode, test frequency, or access the menus with a joystick-like button.
The LCR-Reader is a more budget friendly model of Smart Tweezers, and was the first to debut the lighter weight and smaller size to the public in August of 2013. This model was designed for non-professionals and hobbyists looking for a tool like Smart Tweezers but without the high price tag, while not forgoing the high accuracy or ease of use. The LCR-Reader is fully automatic and provides the same experience as Smart Tweezers, but does not offer some features such as: component sorting, parasitic offset subtraction, and diode/continuity/open circuit tests, as well as not having variable test signals opting for just a 0.5 Vrms. This device retails under $200, which makes it more accessible to consumers outside of a professional setting. This model is also controlled by a one-button navigation that, when pushed, cycles through the measurement modes.
Features on this model include:
- Automatic L, C, R and ESR measurements
- Basic accuracy of 1% (about the same accuracy found on previous ST-2 and ST-3 models)
- Best range selection
- Li-Ion battery with micro-USB charger
- 1 oz. weight.
Smart Tweezers are an essential tool for testing and troubleshooting Surface Mount Devices in or out of circuits, and offers users better accuracy and more features than other similar devices available.
