2014 Spirit of Innovation Challenge Semi-Finalists Announced
Houston, Texas (PRWEB) November 22, 2013 -- Jennifer Fotherby, Conrad Foundation executive director, announced today the semi-finalist teams for the 2014 Spirit of Innovation Challenge. This year, 133 innovative teams are advancing to the next stage of the competition with the ultimate goal of pitching their products to a live and virtual audience at the 2014 Innovation Summit.
Selected from a pool of 385 entries from around the world, these semi-finalist teams will complete business and technical plans as well as marketing videos and graphic representations to compete for multiple $10,000 grants and commercialization opportunities. During this phase of the competition, teams can seek guidance from an online network of mentors who are world-renowned scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs.

29 International teams from 13 countries
104 U.S. teams from 59 cities
75 schools from around the world
“These students have demonstrated their remarkable abilities to think like innovators and entrepreneurs,” Fotherby said. “The quality of their ideas and the depth of understanding displayed by these teams reaffirm our belief that given the opportunity young people will bring about significant and vital change to our global community.”
Some of this year’s innovations include: a device designed to aid in the administration of CPR, a system to assess the state of fatigue in pilots, a hybrid solar helicopter, a device to aid parents in monitoring their children’s gaming habits, and a microchip sensor to reduce medical complications in diabetics.
