In 2013, more than 23,000 foster care children “aged out” of the system when they turned 18. Inspired by this statistic and her own experience with her child’s adoption and serving as a court appointed child’s advocate, author Sophia Blake wrote her new book, “Unmirrored Faces, Mirrored Hearts: Our Family’s Hope-Filled Multicultural Adoption of an Older Child” (published by WestBow Press), which tells the Blake family’s personal experience with adoption.

The story is told from Sophia’s perspective. Blake reveals her family’s account of the issues that many adoptive families face. She describes the ups and downs of bringing a new member into a family, especially one who has faced adversity. “Unmirrored Faces, Mirrored Hearts” shows that, in spite of how a child comes into a family, be it biologically or adopted, one doesn’t have total control over any of their children. But, with God’s grace and direction, anything is possible.

“I believe this book could give hope to thousands of people that are wondering if they could ever adopt and love an adopted child as well as those that already have adopted or are currently fostering children,” Blake says.
