Tulsa Car Accident Attorney Jeff Martin Weighs in on Report about Speeding in Construction Zones
Tulsa, OK (PRWEB) February 20, 2014 -- Commenting on a news article about efforts to crack down on speeding in construction zones, Tulsa car accident lawyer Jeff Martin of the Law Offices of Jeff Martin said today such law enforcement measures are necessary to keep construction workers and motorists using the roads safe from careless drivers.
Tulsa World (“Tulsa police cracking down on speeders in work zones,” January 9) reported that construction zones across south and east Tulsa featured bolstered police presence in January as a way to increase safety for construction zone workers and reduce traffic accident risks.
“If you’re approaching a construction zone in Tulsa, slow down and stay alert,” Martin said. “Avoiding a serious traffic accident can be as simple as that. We support the law enforcement effort, because speeding is one of the top factors in car accidents. We’ve handled serious cases involving accidents in construction zones and many of them can be traced back to someone who was going too fast.”
According to the Tulsa World article, police officers randomly monitored construction zones in the east and south Tulsa, with the effort focused within the police department’s Mingo Valley Division which encompasses areas east of Sheridan Road and south of Interstate 244.
Citing a news release issued by the city’s police department, Tulsa World reported that police advise drivers to wear their seat belts, avoid texting or talking on the phone and to strictly adhere to all warning and speed limit signs while navigating through construction zones. A failure to do so, according to Tulsa World, could result in a fine ranging from $150 to $500, ten days in prison, or both.
“Speed limits and warning signs are posted in construction zones for a very important reason. Road surfaces are often uneven or present obstacles to drivers. Construction zones are occupied by workers who could lose their lives if motorists fail to follow the law. To ignore the speed limit is careless behavior that could have devastating consequences,” said Martin. “If you or a loved one was injured or killed in an accident, seek the advice of legal counsel. A lawyer can help pursue compensation for losses and hold the negligent individual accountable.”
