Speedwell Design Center Donates to The Seeing Eye
MORRISTOWN, N.J. (PRWEB) August 07, 2016 -- Speedwell Design Center donated a $1000 gift certificate to The Seeing Eye, a non-profit organization that trains and breeds guide dogs for the visually impaired. The winner of the gift certificate redeemed his prize at the design center at the beginning of June and posed for a picture with Bacchus, the store's canine mascot and Seeing Eye Career Change dog.
Speedwell Design Center, a window treatment and flooring store, made a donation to a fundraising auction for The Seeing Eye. The Seeing Eye is a philanthropic organization that breeds and trains dogs to assist people who are blind or visually impaired. The organization has an annual auction to raise funds for the work accomplished by the organization. Administrative fees and the costs associated with organizing the fundraiser are covered by the school's endowment.
"We are proud to continue our support for this highly visible fixture of our community," said Barry Kolsky, owner of Speedwell Design Center. "We believe very much in the importance of the work done by The Seeing Eye."
Incorporated in 1929, The Seeing Eye moved from Tennessee to New England for a climate that was more suitable for training dogs. The oldest existing school for guide dogs anywhere around the globe, The Seeing Eye has become a research leader in canine behavior, genetics and breeding. While the organization sometimes purchases dogs or obtains them by exchange, they also breed and raise puppies for the purpose of their becoming trained as guide dogs. The recipients of guide dogs are trained in the care, handling, capabilities and proper use of the animals. The organization's mission is to "enhance the independence, dignity and self-confidence of blind people."
Speedwell Design Center places an emphasis on supporting fixtures of the local community like The Seeing Eye, whose canine and human trainees are routinely seen on the streets around Morristown.
