Splashdown to A New Year with North America’s Largest Water Clock At The World’s Largest Children’s Museum
INDIANAPOLIS (PRWEB) December 20, 2018 -- Drop by drop, closely watch North America’s largest Water Clock! The neon green and bright blue clock stands 26.5 feet tall at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis . It will help bring in 2019 early for all to enjoy at the family-friendly hours of 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. Learn how the clock operates below.
Countdown to Noon is an annual event at the world’s largest children’s museum as the family party anticipates and celebrates New Year’s Eve without making the little ones stay up past their bed times. Join in the music, confetti, and fun on Dec. 31, 2018, for countdowns to the New Year at noon and again at 1 p.m. There will be free Happy New Year visors while supplies last. Also, enjoy one of the last few days of the museum’s traditional Jolly Days Winter Wonderland exhibit.
The activities for this year’s Countdown to Noon include:
- New Year’s Around the World - Send New Year’s greetings to friends all over the world by learning pronunciations of foreign languages and matching each greeting to its corresponding country.
- Family Paper Time-Capsule - Recount your favorite memories of 2018 by creating a time capsule. Snap a photo next to our “Happy New Year” banner to add as a finishing touch to your 2018 capsule!
- Performances by Zak Morgan - Enjoy music by Grammy-nominated Zak Morgan, and join him in counting down at noon and 1p.m.
Jolly Days: Winter Wonderland will be open Nov. 23, 2018 – Jan. 6, 2019. Families can visit Santa through Dec. 24, and while in the exhibit, participate in pretend fishing, ice-skating and holiday baking. There will also be a castle to climb and a magical globe that allows visitors to let it snow at the push of a button!
The museum offers free admission to good little girls and boys and their families on December 24, 2018. Please note the museum is open from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on that day. Lastly, there will be plenty of programming happening during this festive time so that families can always experience something new: Earn your elf ears, participate in “snowball” fights, sing along with The Mistletoes, and talk to animated winter characters! See the programs happening the day of your visit on our online calendar.
The water clock helps families learn to tell time in a whole new way. It has a computer panel tied to it where we can change the time, then our staff manually adds or subtracts water on the minutes or hour side using solenoid valves located below the floor. The clock does adjust itself every 30 minutes and 6 hours based on the computer clock, but when it’s a whole hour changing you have to manually add or subtract water.
- Just a reminder that The Children’s Museum wants to provide plenty of opportunities for visiting children and families to enjoy the museum during the holidays and winter vacations. Although we are closed most Mondays during the winter, we will be open Monday, December 17, 2018 and Monday, December 24 (museum is open for shortened hours on this free day from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.) and December 31, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. We will be closed on Christmas Day, December 25th.
Also, don’t forget that earlier this season, kids visiting the museum tested and voted for their favorite 2018 toys. Find the Kid-Tested, Kid-Approved list here, and be sure to visit The Museum Store in person or online to purchase gifts.
Countdown to Noon is supported by Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance and Hello Fresh.
