St. Augustine's Bayfront Marin House Announces September House Concerts
Internationally Known Singer/Songwriters Performing House Concerts at St. Augustine Bed and Breakfast
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla., Aug. 20, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Bayfront Marin House, an award-winning bed and breakfast located in St. Augustine's historic district, will host two internationally known singer/songwriters at two separate house concerts in September.
"A house concert is always special," says Sandy Wieber, owner of the bed and breakfast. "You get an intimacy that you can't get in a larger venue. But to have musicians of this caliber up close and personal is a real treat."
Singer-Songwriter Jill Sobule will perform September 8 at 7:30 in the inn's main dining room. Sobule sang the 1995 single "I Kissed a Girl" and the song "Supermodel", which was recorded for the soundtrack of the 1995 hit movie "Clueless" with Alicia Silverstone.
Sobule has a folksy singing style, and her songs alternate between ironic, story-driven character studies and emotive ballads, a duality reminiscent of such 1970s American songwriters as Warren Zevon, Harry Nilsson, Loudon Wainwright III, Harry Chapin, and Randy Newman.
An example of her wit is the video for Sobule's "I Kissed a Girl", depicting a suburban housewife with an interest in her next door neighbor. Sobule plays the housewife, and her hapless husband is played by romance novel cover model Fabio.
Sobule has worked with some of music's most talented individuals, including Todd Rundgren, who produced her first album including the ballad "Too Cool to Fall in Love".
Francis Dunnery is an English musician, singer-songwriter, record producer and record label owner, and he will be playing on September 12 at 7:30, also in the main dining room. Dunnery was originally the front man for British prog-pop band It Bites, working with the band between 1982 and 1990. Since 1990 Dunnery has pursued a solo career and has owned and run his own Aquarian Nation record label since 2001. In addition, he has performed as a sideman and musical contributor for artists as diverse as Robert Plant, Lauryn Hill, Santana and Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe.
Dunnery is an entertaining performer, interspersing his songs with stories both touching and funny about his days as a rock star.
