Fit Body Boot Camp in Stafford Announces the Launch of their Boot Camp Food Drive Benefiting the Houston Food Bank
Stafford, TX (PRWEB) November 04, 2013 -- Inspired by recent child hunger statistics in Southeast Texas and the upcoming holiday season, the popular Fit Body Boot Camp in Stafford has decided to launch a boot camp food drive in order to benefit the Houston Food Bank.
Every Saturday during the month of November at its 3727 Greenbriar Dr #120, Stafford, TX 77477 fitness studio, Fit Body Boot Camp Stafford will host a free one hour boot camp workout at 9:00 am and 10:00am in exchange for two canned food items to be donated to the Houston Food Bank, whose mission is to make food accessible to hungry people in their greatest times of need.
Texas at 27.6 % has one of the highest rates of children who are food insecure, that is, without consistent access to food. According to the Houston Food Bank, out of the 137,000 different people who receive food assistance each week, 47% of them are children under the age of 18.
Owner and operator of the Stafford Fit Body Boot Camp, local fitness expert Leo Chan, says that these numbers are what inspired him to launch his Saturday Boot Camp Food Drive.
He explains, “I was inspired to run this food drive because I feel that hunger is the worst feeling anyone can get. Growing up I was fortunate to have food at least 2-3 times a day. Food is needed for everyone to survive and it’s really heartbreaking to know that there are children and adults out there that don’t have access to food on a daily basis.”
Opened in July of this year, Fit Body Boot Camp Stafford is already home to over 45 full-time members looking to lose weight, tone up, and become healthier overall.
Chan has been a personal trainer for many years, and admits that it was family health issues that originally inspired him to become a fitness professional in the first place. He says, “I became a fitness professional because I come from a long family history of heart disease. My parents and grandparents both suffer from diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. After My mother suffered a stroke when I was 16, I decided to become a trainer to help people prevent getting those diseases by proper nutrition and exercise.”
