South Carolina Auto Accident Attorney Anthony Harbin Weighs In on Takata Airbag Recalls That Have Affected Eight Vehicle Manufacturers
Anderson, S.C. (PRWEB) June 30, 2014 -- South Carolina car accident attorney Anthony Harbin of Standeffer & Harbin is weighing in on the millions of vehicles that have recently been recalled due to an issue with airbags manufactured by Takata Corporation.
“Airbags were created as an additional measure of protection during an auto accident, not to increase the risk of injury. Manufacturing companies are beginning to understand that there is a very low tolerance for failing to properly assess whether or not their product is safe for consumers. We hope that this year will serve as a lesson for vehicle and vehicle part manufacturers and that they will strengthen their testing standards,” said Harbin.
In an article recently published by Reuters on June 26,* automakers have recalled more than 10 million vehicles over the past five years to fix Takata airbags that could explode and send shrapnel at drivers and passengers. Two deaths have allegedly been caused by the faulty airbags.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) launched an investigation into six reports of airbag inflator ruptures and have determined that there is an immediate risk in areas that have consistently hot, humid conditions over extended periods of time. Recall notifications have been received by BMW, Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Mazda, and Nissan.**
According to the NHTSA, as noted in the documents attached, three alleged injuries stemmed from three different complaints that a driver’s bag inflator had ruptured. The vehicles involved in these incidents included a Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla and Mazda 6.
