Stan Poel’s New Suspense Novel Illuminates Hidden Wounds of War
Eddy, Texas (PRWEB) December 12, 2013 -- In his timely, new suspense novel, “Of Souls and Patriots” (published by WestBow Press), author Stan Poel sheds light on the important contributions of veterans, their wounds and the obligations of communities to provide them with support.
“Suspense novels about terrorism and military combat are common today; most of these books focus on acts of heroism without emphasis on the hidden wounds of war suffered by veterans,” Poel explains. “This book may be unique in today’s marketplace since – along with a suspenseful tale of heroism – it addresses the hidden wounds of war and recovery from those wounds.”
Set in the present day, “Of Souls and Patriots” follows the adventures of Mack DeHaan, a Vietnam combat veteran carrying the invisible wounds of war. After retiring to a small Virginia farm, he gets drawn back into conflict when terrorists from the Texas/Mexico border threaten Washington, D.C.
“Military veterans are examples of people who have stretched their limits to serve us,” Poel writes. “They have experienced enormous hardships and suffering in the process. Our communities owe them not only honor and respect for their monumental efforts, but also active support in their healing process. Sadly, society fails to fulfill this obligation. We must resolve to do better.”
