Balancing Evil and Good Becomes the Central Theme of the Suspense Thriller, ‘The Pinch’

Out of the contemplation of everyday, common human fears, author Stephen Card comes up with a unique tale that revolves around keeping the balance between good and evil while presenting the twisted logic of the human mind on the sideline. “The Pinch” is the second book of Card’s “What We Know about Leona Street” series. This time, the story follows two families that will be the determining bloodlines to keep the “balance”.

Robert and Delores Trexler have been cursed — how else to explain Delores’ mid-life pregnancy? While Delores seeks refuge in insanity, and while Robert watches the world unravel, Tricia, their young daughter, fights to remove the curse by killing the Forth bird. Two houses down, Rudy Faragot is protecting his yard from those who would dare cut through and into the woods. To protect his territory, the young and innocent Rudy must be crucified and then resurrected as the solitary and savage Dinky Dau. The paths of the Trexlers and The Dinky Dau cross in the Forbidden Field late one snowy night. It is here Rudy surrenders to those he has slaughtered and has delivered to The Pinch. Will the Trexlers be able to restore the balance of good and evil through this incident?

Readers will find out as they continue to read the gripping pages of “The Pinch”. With various contradictions presented in the story just like in the character of Rudy who has an alter-ego, readers will be thrilled to know and follow the cause of his unruly nature. Along with other characters that are well fleshed out, and a presentation that has delicate balance between humor and horror, as well as the snappy dialogues, readers will be left begging for more. “The Pinch” is a mind-boggling read yet a very true reflection of the society that is superstitious and fearful, giving readers the necessary creeps that will motivate them to continue reading forward.
