Within the new faith-based book “Giant Killers: Overcoming Obstacles and Seizing Opportunities” (published by WestBow Press), author Steve Lawson explores the five key character qualities he believes can enable people to overcome obstacles and seize opportunities with confidence.

The idea for “Giant Killers” was rooted in Lawson’s study of Dr. Reuven Bar-On and Daniel Goleman’s work in the emotional intelligence arena. Emotional intelligence is mainly defined by a set of emotional and social skills that collectively establish how well people perceive and express themselves, develop and maintain social relationships, cope with challenges, make decisions and handle stress, Lawson says.

“As I was studying emotional intelligence, I was also learning more about God’s grace,” Lawson adds. “Not just grace that saves us, but grace that transforms us. I began to connect the dots that if a person really understood their identity in Christ then they could more accurately engage in self-examination without fear or judgment.”

In keeping with this sentiment, Lawson blended the two realms of faith and emotional intelligence to study how this knowledge can be fully utilized through God’s grace. With “Giant Killers,” he presents readers with the five emotional attributes of biblical character David and advises them on how to apply those attributes to their own lives.

Lawson hopes that, while reading his book, his audience gains a profound appreciation for and understanding of the transformational power of God’s grace while establishing a desire for personal development.
