NEW ORLEANS, LA (PRWEB) June 07, 2016
St. Luke’s Living Center recently hosted the four-month wedding anniversary of Mr. Kenneth Thompson and Ms. Linda Lusignan. The celebration was held on Thursday, May 19, 2016. The couple, both residents of the senior living facility, met and developed a relationship while living at the center.
Since 2010, Thompson has served as a volunteer for the center’s BINGO games, one of the many regularly scheduled activities at St. Luke’s Living Center. Thompson prepared coffee for the events, and his first interactions with Lusignan were during BINGO nights. “Yes, two Sweet'N Lows with cream please” were the first words Lusignan said to Thompson while waiting for BINGO to start. The wedding took place on January 19, 2016, and the couple has served as an inspiration for how love finds a way and how residents of assisted living facilities can make meaningful connections with others.
“Many new residents in assisted living environments are nervous about the transition, but Linda and Kenneth have proven that the move can mark the beginning of a wonderful, new chapter of life,” said Mariana Roppolo, director of St. Luke’s Living Center. “Over the past months, the couple has been an inspiration for people in the community, and we are happy to help them celebrate four months of matrimony.”
According to a study commissioned by the Clarity and The EAR Foundation, twenty-six percent of senior citizens report that their greatest fear is losing their independence, and eleven percent most fear losing contact with friends and family. The anniversary of Thompson and Lusignan is an inspiration not only to romantics but also to families with practical concerns about the quality of life accessible to residents of assisted living facilities. For Thompson and Lusignan, St. Luke’s Living Center has just marked the beginning of a new chapter in two interesting lives.
Thompson was born in historic Gretna and is a veteran of the Army unit E6. He worked as a mechanic after serving in the military. Lusignan was born in Algiers and worked as a chiropractor before becoming Deputy Sheriff Secretary. “He thinks so much of me,” says Lusignan of Thompson, “even when I’m not thinking of myself.”
Since their nuptials, the couple has been living happily together. They are excited that St. Luke's Living Center has chosen to highlight their four months of being wed with a celebration.
