The StorageOS Operator allows one-click installation and on-going management of its cloud native storage solution, enabling organizations to maximize their investment in Red Hat OpenShift.
Red Hat OpenShift Certified Operators provide an enhanced Day 1 and Day 2 management experience for modern applications. Operators automate common administration tasks to increase productivity and reduce unplanned downtime that could be caused by human error.
The StorageOS Operator creates and manages a storage cluster across an OpenShift deployment, transforming local or attached storage capacity into enterprise-class, persistent storage for applications running in containers. StorageOS is built from the bottom up with no legacy restrictions. The latest version of StorageOS v1.2 includes several new features that improve security and performance and enable rapid failover of Kubernetes workloads.
- Rapid Failover – Kubernetes node failure detection is highly conservative and will only begin re-scheduling pods after a node has been offline for 5 minutes. Additionally, for stateful workloads deployed as a StatefulSet, manual intervention is required to failover to another node. StorageOS Rapid Failover uses a gossip protocol to detect node failure within 30 seconds and then automates recovery actions without administrator intervention.
- Security – StorageOS delivers encryption at rest by encrypting volumes. It uses the industry standard AES symmetric encryption algorithm. Keys are stored as Kubernetes Secrets.
- Performance improvements – Lower and more deterministic latency, higher throughput, and less impact on system resources.
