Stryker Hip Recall Lawsuits
Court records indicate that 382 Stryker hip lawsuits are now pending in Bergen County Superior Court. All of the lawsuits were filed on behalf of plaintiffs who suffered serious complications, including metallosis, necrosis, osteolysis, and failure of the hip, allegedly as a result of toxic metal debris shed from Rejuvenate and ABG II hip stems. Nearly 200 additional Stryker hip recall claims involving similar allegations have also been filed in a multidistrict litigation underway in U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota. (In re: Stryker Rejuvenate and ABG II Hip Implant Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2441)
Stryker recalled the Rejuvenate and ABG II hip stems in July 2012, after post-market surveillance indicated the metal components were associated with an unacceptably high rate of fretting and corrosion at the modular neck junction. This may cause patients to experience pain, swelling and adverse local tissue reactions at the joint. However, symptoms may not be immediately apparent, so Stryker has advised all patients affected by the Stryker recall to undergo medical screening regardless of the presences of symptoms.
Recipients of Rejuvenate and ABG II hip stems who experienced serious complications allegedly related to fretting and corrosion may be eligible to file a Stryker hip lawsuit seeking compensation for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
