Stryker Hip Lawsuit Update: Filings in Federal, State Stryker Hip Recall Litigations Surpass 600, Bernstein Liebhard LLP Reports
New York, New York (PRWEB) September 26, 2013 -- Stryker hip lawsuits(http://www.strykerhiprecall.net/) filed in the wake of the July 2012 recall for Rejuvenate and ABG II Modular-Neck Hip Stems continue to mount in state and federal litigations around the country, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. According to court documents, well over 600 Stryker hip recall lawsuits have been filed thus far, including 290 that are pending in a multidistrict litigation underway in U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota. (In re: Stryker Rejuvenate and ABG II Hip Implant Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2441) An additional 382 Stryker lawsuits involving similar allegations have also been filed in a multicounty litigation underway in New Jersey’s Bergen County Superior Court, where Bernstein Liebhard LLP is currently filing claims. (In Re Stryker Rejuvenate Hip Stem and the ABG II Modular Hip Stem Litigation, No. 296)
“Our Firm hears from Rejuvenate and ABG II hip stem recipients on a regular basis, so we are not surprised that total number of Stryker hip lawsuit filings has already surpassed 600,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing the victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm continues to offer free Stryker hip lawsuit evaluations to individuals who have suffered serious complications, allegedly due to the Rejuvenate and ABG II hip stems.
Stryker Hip Recall
According to court documents, all of the Stryker hip lawsuits pending in both the state and federal litigation were filed on behalf of plaintiffs who suffered serious and debilitating complications, allegedly as a result of toxic metal debris shed from Rejuvenate and ABG II hip stems. Plaintiffs further allege that the microscopic metal ions released due to fretting and corrosion of the hip stems can accumulate to dangerous levels in recipients’ bodies, resulting in metallosis, necrosis, osteolysis, and failure of the hip. Many of the individuals with lawsuits pending in the proceedings have had to undergo revision surgery to have their artificial hips replaced, allegedly due to complications associated with the Rejuvenate and ABG II components.
The Stryker hip recall was announced after data from post-market surveillance indicated the Rejuvenate and ABG II hip stems were associated with an unacceptably high rate of fretting and corrosion at the modular neck junction. Stryker has warned that patients fitted with these components may experience pain, swelling and adverse local tissue reactions at the joint. However, the company has advised all patients affected by the Stryker hip recall to undergo medical screening regardless of the presence of symptoms, as they may not appear immediately.*
Individuals affected by the Stryker hip recall who suffered serious complications allegedly caused by Rejuvenate or ABG II hip stems may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
