New York, New York (PRWEB) September 13, 2014 -- Stryker hip lawsuits (http://www.strykerhiprecallclaims.com/) filed in the wake of the 2012 Rejuvenate and ABG II Modular-Neck Hip Stem recall continue to mount in a multicounty litigation underway in New Jersey’s Bergen County Superior Court, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. According to an updated Case List issued by the Court on September 10th, 2,097 cases are now pending in the proceeding. That represents an increase of 33 filings since the Court issued its August update, when 2,068 claims were reported. “Our Firm is representing numerous Stryker hip recall clients in this litigation, and we look forward to continued progress in the proceeding,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing the victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm continues to offer free legal evaluations to individuals who were allegedly harmed by Stryker’s Rejuvenate and ABG II Modular-Neck Hip Stems.
Stryker Hip Recall Litigation
According to court documents, Stryker lawsuits pending in Bergen County allege that the Rejuvenate and ABG II stems were defectively designed and inadequately tested prior to coming to market. The lawsuits further allege that metal debris generated from fretting and corrosion of the components can result in metallosis, osteolysis, chronic pain and other complications which may result in the need for surgery to remove and replace the device.
In addition to the Stryker hip recall litigation underway in New Jersey, a federal multidistrict litigation involving similar lawsuits has been established in U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota. Just over 1,700 cases have been filed in that proceeding. (In re: Stryker Rejuvenate and ABG II Hip Implant Products Liability Litigation, No. 244)
The Stryker hip recall was announced by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration on July 6, 2012, due to a high rate of fretting and corrosion at the modular neck junction. Stryker has warned that this occurrence places recipients of the Rejuvenate and ABG II stems at risk for adverse local tissue reactions, pain and swelling. In addition, the company has recommended medical screening for all patients fitted with the components, even if they have not experienced any symptoms that would suggest a problem with their implant.*
Recipients of Rejuvenate and ABG II hip stems may be entitled to compensation if they experienced serious complications allegedly related to fretting and corrosion of the devices.
