“Our firm is actively filing claims in this litigation, and we continue to hear from alleged victims of the Stryker recall on a regular basis. We look forward to additional progress in this proceeding in the months to come,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing the victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm continues to offer free Stryker lawsuit evaluations to individuals who have allegedly suffered serious complications, allegedly due to the defective nature of Rejuvenate and ABG II hip stems.
Stryker Recall
Stryker announced the Rejuvenate and ABG II hip stem recall in July 2012, after the metal components were found to be vulnerable to fretting and corrosion at the modular neck stem. According to the Stryker recall notice, patients who experience this phenomenon may develop pain, swelling, and adverse local tissue reactions due to the metal ions shed from the devices. However, the company advised all recipients of Rejuvenate or ABG II stems to undergo medical screening regardless of symptoms to ensure their hip components are working properly, as there have been reports of asymptomatic patients who went on to develop adverse local tissue reactions.*
According to court documents, patients in Stryker lawsuits have allegedly suffered a variety of complications due to the metal ions released as a result of fretting and corrosion, including metallosis, necrosis, osteolysis, and failure of the hip resulting in revision surgery. In addition to the claims pending in New Jersey, at least 159 lawsuits involving similar allegations have been filed in a federal multidistrict litigation now underway in U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota. The federal proceeding’s Initial Conference is scheduled for September 9, 2013. (In re: Stryker Rejuvenate and ABG II Hip Implant Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2441)
Stryker Rejuvenate and ABG II hip stem recipients who allegedly suffered serious injuries due to these recalled components may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
