Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) September 24, 2013
SmartWatt Energy announced today they've been awarded a large-scale energy efficiency project with a prominent West Coast university, described by Sierra Club rankings as “over-the-top thorough” when it comes to environmental stewardship.
SmartWatt designed and will install an energy-efficient lighting and lighting control project throughout 43 campus facilities. The project will remove outdated interior lighting and replace it with high-efficiency lighting and lighting controls technologies, which will allow the lighting to be automatically turned off when not in use. This adaptive lighting, commonly referred to as SmartLighting, will automatically adjust to suit activity levels and daylight where applicable.
“Our client has a long-term commitment to sustainability and this is the type of project that will help them reach their goals, “ explained Ben Stewart, Vice President of West Coast Operations at SmartWatt. “The upgrades will provide a better learning environment for students and faculty, decrease maintenance for staff and save money. The combination will position the university as a model of sustainability for their entire campus community and beyond.”
SmartWatt provided an investment-grade lighting audit of campus facilities to prioritize the project rollout. The engineering is complete and SmartWatt recently began construction. The project is expected to save 61.6% in annual lighting energy usage, which is estimated to save up to $475,000 per year.
