Swedenborg Foundation Releases New Century Edition Title "Last Judgment / Supplements" by Emanuel Swedenborg
Renowned eighteenth-century scientist and spiritual visionary Emanuel Swedenborg wrote about the greatly-debated Bible references to a Last Judgment in two short works published separately in 1758 and 1763. Now, for the first time, his intriguing writings on the subject drawn from his mystical journeys to the spiritual world are available in one volume.
WEST CHESTER, Pa., Sept. 1, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Swedenborg Foundation's newest title of 2018 is now available. "Last Judgment / Supplements" joins two of Emanuel Swedenborg's revelatory writings about "the end times" referenced in the Bible, which were first published separately in the mid-eighteenth century. This latest release from the New Century Edition series offers readers a modern translation of Swedenborg's firsthand mystical accounts of a Last Judgment he claims to have witnessed in the spiritual world.
In "Last Judgment," first published in 1758, Swedenborg explains that history can be divided into a series of spiritual ages or churches. At the end of each age, evil threatens to overwhelm both the earthly and the spiritual worlds, and the Lord restores balance between good and evil with a Last Judgment. The Last Judgment Swedenborg says he witnessed applied only to the souls of people who had lived since the time of Christ up until 1757, and he describes that reformation of the spiritual world as allowing humanity to enter the next age with a new understanding of religion. He goes on to describe how various types of people were judged, a theme he continues in the 1763 short work "Supplements."
The new spiritual age that Swedenborg saw emerging during his lifetime is one of the foundational themes in his theology (a theme he explores more deeply in his later work, "Revelation Unveiled," which is a commentary on the book of Revelation). In "Supplements," Swedenborg succinctly introduces his understanding of the connection between heaven and earth and of how that connection plays out over the course of human history.
"Last Judgment / Supplements" is available in paperback for $6.99 and e-book editions for $1.
