Teacher Created Materials Contributes to iSTEM Efforts with Donations to Teachers and Students at Rio Vista Elementary
Anaheim, CA (PRWEB) March 03, 2016 -- Teacher Created Materials, a leader in educational publishing, took another step towards realizing their vision “to create a world in which children love to learn” by donating professional books for teachers and student backpacks to Rio Vista Elementary. The contributions were in support of the iSTEM program, a collaborated partnership between the K–5 Anaheim school and California State University Fullerton designed to benefit teachers and students through training, technology integration, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) instruction.
Teacher Created Materials presented 31 teachers from Rio Vista Elementary with an exclusive packet including professional development books and a $100 gift certificate. In addition, each of Rio Vista’s 940 students received a grade-appropriate backpack filled with books and activities they can complete on their own or working at home with parents and caregivers, with the goal of keeping students on track academically during summer and other breaks from school.
Attending the iSTEM event at Rio Vista was Deanne Mendoza, Co-Owner of Teacher Created Materials, who is committed to helping educators everywhere advance innovation in schools, particularly schools that are most in need. “Our goal at Teacher Created Materials is to support the efforts of programs like iSTEM to help level the learning field for all students. Helping teachers integrate innovation into the classroom is important to the future of our students,” says Mendoza. The special event gave all stakeholders in the program an opportunity to revel in the program’s success.
Beginning in 2009, California State University Fullerton and Rio Vista Elementary School formed the iSTEM partnership to collaborate together with the goal of continually training teachers in areas of innovation integration and STEM instruction. Students benefit through better qualified teachers, improved instruction, STEM achievement, and as a result are better prepared for college and career.
Committed to the success of student achievement, Rio Vista Elementary School is located in Anaheim and is part of the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District. Educating a diverse student body, primarily made up of Hispanic students, over half are designated as English language learners and a large percentage (88%) participate in a free or reduced-price lunch program. The collaboration between California State University Fullerton and Rio Vista has resulted in significant improvement at both the teacher and student level.
