Teenage Girl Must Learn to Accept the Consequences for Choices Made in New Coming-of-Age Tale
JUNEAU, Alaska (PRWEB) March 28, 2019 -- Tora has always wished for adventure outside her valley village, but when a tattooed man arrives in Holm, wishes turn to otherworldly nightmares in Eleanor Currit’s new action adventure fantasy novel “The Slain Maiden” (published by Archway Publishing).
When Tora and her mother visit Helga, a neighbor with a newborn, Helga reveals her baby has been stolen and replaced with the grey-skinned black-eyed monster they see in the crib, an ominous sign of things to come. Soon after, Tora finds herself suddenly robbed of childhood and forced to be the breadwinner of the family when seasonal workers arrive in the summer. At 17 she is met with a series of personal challenges, and must decide how best to face them, ultimately changing her fate forever.
“I think that society is caught between telling teenagers to remain children and enjoy it while they can, while also telling them to engage with adult ideas they know little about. I think young women need to be reminded of what growing up is. It isn't leaving home but remaining in the daycare bubble, it is learning self-reliance and how to differentiate good decisions from the bad.”
