StageofLife.com released its monthly trend report centered around the topic of how teens approach goal setting. 500+ high school students from across the US participated in the national survey and hundreds submitted a personal essay about a goal they succeeded or failed at accomplishing.

Teen blogging community, StageofLife.com, worked with over five hundred high school students across the US for this month's report teen trend report dealing with how high school and college students approach goal setting.

Before answering a national writing prompt that asked students to "Share a story about when you accomplished or failed at achieving a specific goal," students took a short survey revealing the following statistics about teenagers:

--75.4% of teenagers set goals for themselves.
--41.8% of all teens saw educational goals as the most important (followed by community, purchasing, and financial goals in rank order).
--81% of teens have failed at reaching an important goal.
--92.1% of high school and college students are currently working on a goal.
--16% of teens keep track of their goals using their mobile phone while 48% use a notebook, planner, or journal.

Over 8,500 students visited the StageofLife.com writing contest and survey pages during the monthly writing prompt, 500+ teens fully answered the seven-question poll, and over 230 submitted an essay sharing their personal story.

The winning 1st place essay, "On Writing Novels", was written by Katie Talerico, a junior from Maple Grove, MN who attends Wayzata High School.

When asked in an interview with Rebecca Thiegs, VP of Education for StageofLife.com, "What do you think is the greatest lesson or advice you received about writing has been," Talerico responded, "My journalism teacher, Mr. Motes, tells students...that as writers, we can get very attached to our writing, and it’s hard to cut out parts and narrow the focus. In order to get clear, focused writing, it’s necessary to make it half as long, but twice as good."

In addition to receiving recognition as the national teen writing winner, Talerico is also receiving a Series A Tablet from Lenovo, the StageofLife.com education sponsor for the writing contest.
