Kenedi Treasure and Mary Pat Hector Partner for First Annual Youth Vision Awards Set for Spring 2014
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) December 11, 2013 -- They are two entrepreneurs whose unique style led them to launch their own cosmetic line before becoming Atlanta’s savvy social scene sisters, producing teen celebrity events featuring the likes of Mindless Behavior, Jacob Latimore, the O.M.G Girls and more. And at age 17,and 18 Kenedi and Treasure Bishop have officially announced they will be rewarding outstanding youth in spring 2014 with their Youth Vision Awards.
“We want to recognize youth who are considered hometown heroes in their own right,” says Treasure Bishop, co-CEO of the Kenedi Treasure brand. “We know so many kids – some as young as six – who are already starting their careers and making a difference in their community and we want to honor them. We need to have recognition like this, because we need to change the negative stereotype young people receive in the media.”
The sisters have chosen to partner with their friend Mary Pat Hector, a 16 year-old multiple award-winning activist whose voice has been heard through megaphones as she stood at the forefront of Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network as the official youth director, demanding investigations into teen deaths, disappearances and racial discrimination. She has also launched her own foundation. Most recently she was the Peace First winner of a $50,000 grant for her anti-gun campaign, Think Twice.
“Mary Pat is the perfect example of someone not allowing their youth to limit them from pursuing their cause,” added Kenedi. “We are an example of not allowing our youth to limit us from getting a head start on our career. There are so many more kids like us. We knew she would be the perfect person to team up with because she shares the vision we share. Additionally, she’s been honored in so many forums including BET’s Black Girls Rock so we felt to keep it youth produced, we needed to have someone like her to help us bring this to life.”
While the planning committee is still ironing out a variety of details, the sisters revealed that the awards will take place in Atlanta and plan to announce beneficiaries, entertainers and launch their website in short order.
