Wellvia To Launch WellVia Genetics, Providing Affordable, Convenient Genetic Testing To Employers
Irving, Texas (PRWEB) August 02, 2017 -- WellVia, a premier virtual healthcare services company, announces the launch of WellVia Genetics, the first of its kind genetic testing with the flexibility and affordability provided via telemedicine. WellVia has partnered with Predictive Medical Solutions, a CLIA certified laboratory headquartered in Dallas, Texas, to offer an innovative and unique healthcare program that will provide employers with affordable access to industry leading pharmacogenetic (PGx) testing for their employees.
Through WellVia Genetics, employers and other organizations can offer DNA testing for their employees to assess the body’s ability to process medications thereby reducing potential adverse drug reactions.
According to a recent study published in Drugs & Aging (November 2016), there is evidence that utilizing pharmacogenetic tests provides the opportunity for an employer to reduce pharmaceutical costs by more than $600 per year per employee. Additionally, 53 percent of those individuals on polypharmacy were on the wrong drug or dosage, which in turn negatively impacted their performance on or off the job.

A simple cheek swab to gather an individual’s DNA will allow for the mapping of their unique genetic profile to the most commonly prescribed drugs based on diagnosis. WellVia Genetics will provide access to proven, industry-leading PGx tests that map to more than 2,500 different drugs, including over 40 percent of the most commonly prescribed drugs. These comprehensive tests map 19 different genes to identify mutations that may have an impact on how drugs are metabolized by the body.
