Our new community will take dementia care to the next level.
Oakbrook Terrace, IL (PRWEB) November 05, 2014
Terra Vista of Oakbrook Terrace, a new assisted living community located on Ardmore and Roosevelt, is proud to announce the official opening of their information office. You can visit the information office at 100 East Roosevelt, suite 35 which is across Roosevelt in the Outback Steakhouse shopping center of Villa Park.
The information office demonstrates best practices for dementia care that include the use of alternative therapies and advanced technology to enhance brain health and the connection to family and friends. The office contains original artwork created by residents living with memory loss as an example of Art Therapy. Additionally, examples of technology use to show how a family can communicate with their friend or relative with dementia residing at Terra Vista, and stay informed of activity involvement and care updates.
Construction is well underway for the two-story community that will specialize solely in Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia, and is expected to open in Spring of 2015. Kensington Management Group of Morton Grove has over 40 years of experience as skilled care and assisted living operators and is the management oversight and lead developer of this community.
Nancy McCaffrey, Director of Senior Housing Development for the Kensington Management Group, invites those searching for a high quality home for someone with dementia, to schedule a visit at the information office. Terra Vista will be the first of its kind to offer exceptional dementia care using the most advanced research, technology and innovative ideas enabling a more enjoyable environment and a place for family education and successful interaction. “Our new community will take dementia care to the next level. The design of the building with its incorporation of technology will set Terra Vista apart from anything previously available to those living with dementia. Moreover, carefully chosen staff with their own personal Alzheimer’s journeys, will create an environment of compassion, empathy, and heart-driven care that is what every family that is living with this challenging disease deserves.”
Natalie McFarland also joins the team as a registered nurse and Executive Director for Terra Vista. Natalie has compiled over ten years experience providing outstanding care to people with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia. In addition to being a certified Alzheimer’s and dementia care trainer, McFarland is a licensed continued education instructor for nurses and social workers through the Illinois Department of Professional Regulations.
Together, McFarland and McCaffrey hold over 30 years experience in retirement, skilled, assisted living, and dementia care. Both leaders have personal journeys with Alzheimer’s that have influenced their dedication to the awareness, research, and education of this growing disease. “I am fortunate to be part of the management group that understands and acknowledges the importance of quality care and family support for those living with Alzheimer’s. Our key message at Terra Vista is when someone you care about has dementia, we understand it’s a diagnosis for your whole family,” states McFarland.
