New York, New York (PRWEB) February 09, 2014

As product liability claims involving AndroGel and similar medications begin to mount in courts around the country, Bernstein Liebhard LLP announces that it has launched a new testosterone treatment lawsuit (http://www.testosteronelawsuitcenter.com/) website to provide patients and their families with the most updated news on the serious heart side effects that may be associated with the use of prescription testosterone therapies, including:

  •     AndroDerm
  •     AndroGel
  •     Axiron
  •     Bio-T Gel
  •     Delatestryl
  •     Depo-Testosterone
  •     Foresta
  •     Striant
  •     Testopel
  •     Testim

According to a Drug Safety Communication issued by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) in January, a number of studies have linked the use of prescription testosterone therapies to life-threatening cardiovascular events, including heart attacks and strokes. The FDA is now conducting a safety review of these drugs, though it has not yet concluded that this class of medications can cause serious heart problems.

“In light of the FDA alert, as well as recent testosterone treatment lawsuit filings that highlight the patient safety concerns potentially associated with AndroGel and similar medications, our Firm felt it was important to provide the public with convenient access to information on this issue,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing the victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is currently offering free legal reviews to anyone who may have suffered serious heart attacks, strokes, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, allegedly due to the use of prescription testosterone therapies.

Testosterone Treatment Lawsuits

The studies that prompted the FDA to issue a safety communication for prescription testosterone therapies included research that was published last November in the Journal of the American Medical System which reported an increased risk of heart attack, stroke and death among older men with pre-existing heart problems.* A second study, which was published in PLOS One in January, reported that such treatments ware associated with a doubling of the heart attack risk among younger men with pre-existing heart problems, and in men over 65 regardless of their heart health.**

Since the FDA issued its alert, four AndroGel lawsuits have been filed on behalf of men who allegedly suffered serious heart problems due to their use of the drug. The complaints, which were filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois on February 4, 2014, accuse the manufacturer of the medication of creating demand for its product through direct-to-consumer advertising that prompted men to seek testosterone therapy for symptoms normally associated with aging, such as fatigue and low libido. As a result, the lawsuits claim that drugs like AndroGel are often prescribed to men who have normal testosterone levels, even though the FDA has only approved these therapies to treat low testosterone that is associated with another medical condition. (Case Nos: 1:14-cv-00776, 1:14-cv-00780, 1:14-cv-00777, and 1:14-cv-00772)

Men who allegedly suffered serious heart side effects due to their use of prescription testosterone therapies may be entitled to compensation from the manufacturers of these drugs.
